PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for machining a work with which machining time can be shortened by shortening changing time of tools and machining cost for the work can be reduced. SOLUTION: The method includes a step S11 to specify a present tool and a next tool, steps S12, S13 to index the present tool and to perform a machining of the work, a step S15 to index the next tool, a step S16 to decide whether or not it is timing for movement of the next tool during the machining of the work by the present tool, a step S19 to move the next tool to the work side when it is decided that it is the timing for the movement of the next tool to be at the timing, a step S21 to perform retreat movement of the present tool from the work after completion of the machining by the present tool and a step S22 to start the machining of the work by the next tool substantially simultaneously with separation of the present tool from the work by the retreat movement.
