The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for burning fuel gas in a furnace (2), especially for burning gases of low heating value in a steam boiler (1) mainly supplied with a main fuel. The invention is based on supplying the gas produced in a gasifier (5) or other combustible gases to a lower part (10) of the furnace (2), under air-deficient conditions, the gas being burnt in the upper part of the furnace, at a desired combustion air-supply level or at multiple levels.
