PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of speedily and correctly detecting frequency to be used for a peripheral base station, and to provide a portable telephone. SOLUTION: The portable telephone is provided with a radio part 12 for receiving a spread spectrum signal from the peripheral base station, an A/D converting part 13 for converting the output of the radio part 12 to a digital signal, a despreading part 17 for despreading the output of the A/D converting part 13, and a control part 8. The control part 18 has a function for controlling the selection of receiving in the radio part 12 and detecting the power of output from the A/D converting part 13, detects the frequency of power higher than a prescribed level by detecting the power of output from the A/D converting part 13 within a prescribed band width, detects the frequency of peak power around that detected frequency, detects a frequency having the power despread by the despreading part 17 higher than a threshold around that frequency of the peak power and stores such a frequency in a memory as an effective frequency. |
