CAMERA AND METHOD FOR CHANGING ITS MODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera by which a proper operation mode is automatically selected depending on the opening/closing state of a lens barrier and also to provide its mode changing method. SOLUTION: A digital camera having the lens barrier 11 is provided with an opening/closing sensor 13 for detecting the opening/closing state of the lens barrier 11 so as to detect the state of the lens barrier 11 when the system is started in USB connection. A mode is changed-over into a storage mode (a mode functioned as a card reader) in the case of a closing state and a PC camera mode (a mode for transmitting a video signal during image pickup to a unit such as a personal computer) in the case of an opening state. A movie (moving picture) mode is made the same as a voice recorder mode in selecting position concerning a mode dial 50. Then the mode is changed to the voice recorder mode when the lens barrier 11 is closed and the movie mode when it is opened.
