PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that suppresses the emission level of an electromagnetic noise to be a prescribed level or lower and which will not cause distortions to the signal of image data read by an image sensor. SOLUTION: In the image read unit that receives/outputs a signal via a signal cable formed by connecting a plurality of overlapped flat cables, each of which comprising a plurality of cable wires to an image sensor which converts light from an original into an electrical signal, at least parts of the cable wires of each flat cable are alternately assigned to a signal wire and a ground wire and at least some of the cable wires among the adjacent flat cables are placed, in a way such that the signal wires and the ground wires are alternately face each other.
