PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element that is superior in luminous intensity and durability. SOLUTION: The light-emitting element, which has formed a luminous layer or a plurality of organic compound layers containing a luminous layer between a pair of electrodes, contains at least one kind of compound as expressed in the formula (1) in the hole transport layer. In the formula, Ar<11> , Ar<21> , Ar<31> expresses an arylene group and Ar<12> , Ar<22> , Ar<32> expresses a substituted group or a hydrogen atom. At least one of Ar<11> , Ar<21> , Ar<31> , Ar<12> , Ar<22> , Ar<32> expresses a phenanthrene structure or a condensed ring aryl structure having four rings or more.
