PURPOSE: A whitening cosmetic composition containing an extract of natural plant and crude drug material exhibiting inhibitory activities against tyrosinase is provided which shows excellent whitening effects and skin stability. CONSTITUTION: This whitening cosmetic composition contains 0.01 to 10%(w/v)(dry weight basis) of an extract of one or more materials selected from the group consisting of Citrus junos Tanaka, Aristolochia contorta Bunge, Areca catechu L., Polygonum aviculare L., Robinia pseudoacacia L., Lysimachia barystachys Bunge, Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. and Castanea crenata Sieb. et Zucc..
