PURPOSE: An equipment and a method for processing the surface of a natural gem are provided to reduce loss of the rough stone to the minimum by sorting class of the rough stone with the naked eye when sorting class of rough stone of the natural gem. CONSTITUTION: The method for processing the surface of a natural gem comprises grinding step (S1) of grinding the surface of the rough stone by vibration for about 15 to 20 hours after containing rough stone and water in a tumbler; injection step (S2) of injecting an abrasive into the tumbler so that the surface of the rough stone contained in the tumbler is smoothly faced; confirmation step (S3) of checking the grinding state of the rough stone to confirm internal structure, color and cracks of the rough stone by shedding an electric light on the inner part of the rough stone grinded in the tumbler by vibration; sorting step (S4) of sorting the rough stone passing the confirmation step per types and sizes; cutting step (S5) of cutting the rough stone to cut the rough stone sorted by the sorting step to a certain shape; briefing step (S6) of finishing flaws and cracks generated in the state that the rough stone is sorted and cut; modeling step (S7) of forming a basic shape of the rough stone passing the cutting step; adhesion step (S8) of installing the rough stone at a jig using an adhesive to grind the rough stone a basic shape of which is formed in the modeling step; cutting step (S9) of cutting the rough stone installed at the jig by the adhesive to a certain shape; and polishing step(10) of polishing the rough stone passing the cutting step.
