PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure that makes it possible to suppress the deformation of a moving plate caused by the magnetic force between magnets and coils without increasing rigidity of the moving plate, in a linear motor. SOLUTION: Straight guides 15 are provided inside a casing 16. The moving plate 14 moves along the straight guides 15. On the wall of the casing 16, a pair of upper and lower coil holders 17 is mounted with the moving plate 14 put between them. A coil 11 is mounted on each coil holder 17 back to back. On the top and bottom surfaces of the moving plate 14, a pair of right and left magnet holders 18 is mounted sandwiching each coil holder 17. On each magnet holder 18, a plurality of magnets 12 is mounted. These coils 11 and magnets 12 constitute linear motor elements 10, which are arranged symmetrically to each other against the center surface of the plate thickness and width of the moving plate 14.
