PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader that can execute batch processing of a plurality of sets of originals without the need for key operations or the like. SOLUTION: The original reader provided with an automatic original read section 17 that reads a plurality of originals while sequentially carrying them and an image memory 4 that stores images of read originals, is provided with a control section 1 that reads a new original and allows the image memory 4 to store the read image as the original in succession to the originals already read when the new original is set to the automatic original read section 17 within a prescribed time after the automatic original read section 17 completes reading of the originals.
