PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a dummy pulse to suppress the occurrence of flicker or display unevenness and to considerably reduce the amplitude difference between a selection signal and a data signal to constitute a display panel which has a drive IC mounted in only one side and has three free sides. SOLUTION: In the case of driving a display panel, the dummy pulse of a prescribed voltage having an amplitude value equal to or larger than that of a data signal is superposed on the signal electrode of a dummy signal synchronously with a scan signal which is the selection signal. A signal waveform applied to a light modulation layer like a liquid crystal layer has the frequency made higher by applying the dummy pulse. The application position of the dummy pulse is changed in each color of RGB or frame (field). The amplitude difference between the selection signal and the data signal is considerably reduced by superposing the dummy pulse on the data signal to perform MLS driving, and a circuit of a common driver IC and a circuit of a segment driver IC can be manufactured with one semiconductor chip.
