PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide contents, such as a voice or a video from a contents storing server via a network to a client terminal by dispensing with the client terminal to be conscious of reproducible format. SOLUTION: A network 1 is provided with a format converting server 7 for applying format conversion to contents. A client terminal 5 is provided with a profile-preparing part 51 for preparing a profile described with specifications related with the reproducing and displaying functions of contents at the terminal. The format converting server 7 is provided with a format selecting part 74 for deciding a format-suitable for the client terminal 5 by referring to the profile, a format-converting part 75 for converting the format of the contents received from a contents storing server 3, and a contents- providing part 76 for transmitting the converted contents to the client terminal 5.
