<p>A structural material of gland packing suitably usable for a gland packing in spiral or annular shape and capable of providing an extremely excellent sealing function, comprising a knitted braid (8) spirally knitted by using a plurality of yarns, wherein elastic yarns (51c) higher in elasticity than the yarns and extending in the longitudinal direction of the knitted braid (8) without being entangled with the yarns are disposed, in through state, at least in a knitted layer portion (8A) on the outer peripheral surface (8b) side of a reference surface (X-X) positioned parallel with the inner and outer peripheral surfaces (8b, 8c) through the cross sectional center (80) of the knitted yarn (8), the plurality of elastic yarns (51c) are disposed parallel with the outer peripheral surface (8b) of the knitted braid (8) in the cross section of the knitted braid (8), and the cross sectional shape of the knitted braid (8) is formed in a square, and core yarns (51a, 51b) extending in the longitudinal direction of the knitted yarn (8) are disposed, in through state, at each corner part of the square without being entangled with the yarns.</p> |
