The invention relates to an orthosis that is used to treat (i) metacarpal-phalangeal (1) joint sprains and, more specifically, ulnar (2) and radial (3) lateral ligament sprains, and (ii) 5th metacarpal fractures. According to the invention, the orthosis is of the type that comprises: a flexible element (4) consisting of a distal part (5), which surrounds the area of the first phalanx (6), and a proximal part (7); a tightening means (10) which supports the part (7) around the wrist (21); and two splints (11 and 12) that are placed in gussets (13 and 14) which are solidly connected to the flexible element (4) and positioned on either side of the thumb. The inventive device is essentially characterised in that: the splints (11 and 12), which extend from the interphalangeal joint (16) to the wrist (21), are held in place at both ends, namely (i) at the phalanx, by a first tightening means (19), which is also used to support the part (5) around said phalanx, and (ii), at the wrist, by tightening means (10); and the element (4) is made from two symmetrical stackable parts which are interconnected by means of the longitudinal edge (29) thereof and which are open, at the opposite longitudinal edge thereof, respectively along the length of the edges (15) of the distal part (5), the length of the edges (30) of the palmar and dorsal portions of the part (7) and the length of the edges (31) of the proximal portion of said part (7) around the wrist (21). |
