The present invention relates to compounds that are useful in the treatment or prevention of viral infection. The compounds are derived from the non-glycosylated central subdomain of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) protein G. In a first aspect the compounds consist essentially of a contiguous sequence of amino acids within the sequence representing residues 149-197 of the G protein wherein the sequence of amino acids contains a substitution at position 166. In a second aspect, the compounds consist essentially of a contiguous sequence of amino acids within the sequence representing residues 154-177, wherein the sequence comprises residues 166-170.
