An oxide magnetic material which has, as a primary phase, a ferrite of a hexagonal M−type magneto−plumbite structure, and comprises A representing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Sr, Ba, Pb, and Ca, R representing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Y (yttrium), a rare earth element and Bi, Fe and B (boron), wherein, relative to the total elemental amount of A, R, Fe and B, A accounts for 7.04 to 8.68 atomic %, R accounts for 0.07 to 0.44 atomic %, Fe accounts for 90.4 to 92.5 atomic %, and B accounts for 0.015 to 0.87 atomic %; a ferrite magnet powder and a ferrite magnet comprising the oxide magnetic material; an article utilizing the magnet; and methods for producing them. The oxide magnetic material has improved magnetic characteristics and also can be produced at a reduced production cost.
