Mfg. a surface covering strip material (8), esp. a PU and rubber composite, comprises continuously peeling a strip (3) of suitable thickness from a block (1) of the material, applying a powdered adhesive (5) to one face, heating the adhesive (5) until molten, then solidifying to form a uniform adhesive layer (7). The coated strip material (8) is then wound up into a roll (10) for transporting to a site for laying. In a process for laying the strip (8), pref. onto rot and ageing resistant plastic sealing strips, the strip (8) is progressively unwound from the roll (10) with the adhesive side facing the surface to be covered. The adhesive layer (7) is heated to 100-160 deg C by a hot air blower prior to contact with the surface. Pref. an infra-red heater (6) heats the powdered adhesive (5) to form a uniform layer (7) which is cooled prior to rolling up the strip (8). The cooled adhesive (7) is on the outside of the ready to lay strip material (8) when rolled up. |
