The surface of a prefabricated veneer (1) produced by existing methods is coated with a sealing layer (2) before further application of the veneer onto an object. Independent claims are made for: (a) a single or multi layer veneer with an outer sealing layer; (b) a process for manufacturing a veneered product in which a veneer with applied sealing layer is bonded onto a wood or wood based object; (c) a veneered product with a wood or wood based substrate; (d) process equipment for producing a sealing layer coated veneer including a veneer manufacturing machine, a coating station, transporting unit and sealing layer smoothing station.
