A lintel comprises bituminous bonded clay or sand blocks 10-15, and 20-24 bonded together by and coated with a furfuryl alcohol resin based adhesive or a polyester resin based adhesive applied during laying, a fibreglass reinforced plastics strip being bonded to the underside of the blocks 11-15 and being supported by blocks 10 and 20. The blocks are formed by impregnating the sand or clay with 3 to 30% by weight, of a bituminous binder, compacting the thus formed blocks to 70-90% of their theoretical density and heat curing them in an oxidising atmosphere at 360-500‹F.</p> |
