<p>1,124,606. Oxygen regulator and diluter system. ROBERT SHAW CONTROLS CO. 24 Nov., 1965 [25 Nov., 1964], No. 49989/65. Heading AST. An oxygen regulating apparatus comprises means for regulating an oxygen flow in response to demand, air control means for controlling an air flow as a function of atmospheric pressure, a mixture chamber for mixing the oxygen and air flows, and orifice means located downstream of the oxygen regulating means and variable as a function of oxygen flow to counteract variations in back pressure downstream of the regulating means. The apparatus is illustrated with reference to drawings (see Figs. 1 and 3) wherein the basic oxygen regulator comprises a body 10, a diaphragm 12, an atmospheric vented chamber 16, 18, an oxygen supply via 20, and an inlet valve 22 operated by the pressure differential between chambers 14, 16; the air flow control means comprises a flow chamber 52, a one-way check valve 54 and ported valve plate 56, and an aneroid bellows 64 controlling 56 by means of disc 62; and the mixture chamber 34 comprises an outlet 32 for connection to a mask or helmet, and a contoured poppet 38 formed on a piston 40 and fitted' with spring 50 and controlling orifice 36. The orifice 36 and the biased piston 38-40 constitute a variable area nozzle assembly responding automatically to oxygen flow from the demand regulator and establishing a high velocity jet flow.</p> |
