This polypeptide, which is an SMG−1 belonging to the phosphatidyl−inositol kinase−associated kinase family, is useful in constructing a system for screening a remedy and/or a preventive for pathological conditions caused by the formation of an early transcription termination codon due to a nonsense mutation.
