<p>When the user of a personal computer performs the ending operation of OS, a BIOS does not turn off power immediately but restarts the personal computer through software reset to execute POST and holds the state of the personal computer, immediate before starting the OS after completion of the POST, in a volatile memory before making a transition to power save mode. When the personal computer is started, the BIOS omits execution of the POST and performs only restor processing from power save mode thus starting the OS immediately. With such an arrangement, starting time of the personal computer can be shortened by omitting execution of the POST at the time of starting the personal computer. Processing required at the POST is performed following the ending operation of OS and the completed state of POST after restart is held in a volatile memory thus bringing about power save mode. Power is turned off if the main power supply is disconnected or a battery is dead; but since the OS has ended, the data is not lost unlike conventional technology where a transition is made to standby under a state using the OS.</p> |
