The water has been separated from fuel in a fuel filter, and has settled in a water collection chamber (4). It is evacuated directly to an evacuation level located above the water level via a shut-off valve, e.g. pressure relief valve. This is connected to the collection chamber and leads to filter exterior. Evacuation takes place at a pressure in the collection chamber, which is higher than that in the evacuation area. The pressure differential is generated by the operating pressure within the filter during operation, or by externally applied negative pressure.
