PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic which is prepared by more effectively using efficacy of components such as polysaccharides, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, etc., contained in bamboo, has no restriction in preparation, excellent stability with time after formulation, excellent moisture retention effect and prevention effect on chapped skin. SOLUTION: A bamboo liquid in an early stage of bamboo of a plant (bamboo by a common name) belonging to the subfamily Bambusaceous of the family Gramineae has a moisture retention function for a long period of time and can retain a moisture retention function of a conventional humectant for a long period of time. Since the bamboo liquid is a water-soluble component, in the case of a cosmetic, the bamboo liquid has excellent compatibility with water amounting to most of a product, is applicable to any mode of cosmetic, has no restriction in preparation and has improved stability with time after formulation. A bamboo liquid which is collected in a large amount from Phyllostachys pubescens or Phyllostachys bambusoides and obtained from parts between bamboo joints of bamboo shoots in the spring growing from 1 m to about 1.5 m above the ground or a bamboo liquid collected from a space between the main body of bamboo and a bamboo sheath, especially a bamboo liquid collected from the tip of a young bamboo growing from a period of about 30 cm growth above the ground to about 3 m growth when the bamboo sheath of bamboo shoot is peeled off or from a space between the main body of bamboo and a bamboo sheath during a growth to a young bamboo is preferably used as the bamboo liquid.
