PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a curable resin composition for a coating material which can suitably be dissolved in a solvent substantially free of an aromatic component, and a coating film having good properties by using the curable resin composition for a coating composition. SOLUTION: The curable resin composition for a coating composition comprises (A) a copolymer whose main chain is substantially composed of a vinyl polymer and having at least one hydrolyzable silyl group at the terminal of the main chain and/or in the side chain in the molecule, simultaneously at least one alcoholic hydroxyl group at the terminal of the main chain and/or in the side chain, and furthermore >=50 wt.%, based on the total monomers, >=4C branched alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer and/or >=8C alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer and (B) a solvent substantially free of an aromatic component. The coating film is obtained by using the curable resin composition for a coating material.
