PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring matter excellent in heat resistance, light resistance, an absorbing ratio of an emission line derived from Ne or Xe by electrical discharge, visible light transmittance and the like, and a resin composition such as a filter and the like obtained using the same. SOLUTION: The resin composition comprises a methine compound represented by general formula (1) [wherein R<1> and R<2> are each independently an unsubstituted alkyl, alkoxyl or alkenyl group or the like each having a total number of carbon atoms of up to 12; R<3> and R<4> are each independently a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, an alkyl, alkoxyl or alkoxyalkoxyl group each having a total number of carbon atoms of up to 12, a nitro group, a cyano group, a substituted or unsubstituted amino group; Y<1> and Y<2> are each independently a hydrogen atom or an unsubstituted alkyl, alkoxyl or alkoxyl-substituted alkyl group each having a total number of carbon atoms of up to 12; Z<1> and Z<2> are each a non-metallic atomic group necessary for forming a benzo- condensed ring or a naphtha-condensed ring together with a C=C bond; and X<-> is an electric charge-neutralizing ion].
