PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a reaction for forming a diaryl carbonate is made to more efficiently proceed than a conventional method. SOLUTION: This method for producing the diaryl carbonate comprises converting a mixture containing an aromatic hydroxy compound and a catalyst into a misty state, introducing the resultant mist into a reactional vessel and reacting the mist with a mixed gas containing carbon monoxide and oxygen in the method for producing the diaryl carbonate while separating formed water in or without the coexistence of an inert substance (A) capable of being distilled out together with the formed water from a reactional mixture in the reaction for oxycarbonylating the aromatic hydroxy compound in the presence of carbon monoxide, oxygen and the catalyst.
