PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the oxidation of metal powder and to manufacture a metallic sintered compact having high density, excellent strength and toughness in high yield. SOLUTION: A cavity 16 of a die 18 which is electrically connected to the positive electrode of a DC power source 26 via a lead wire 30 is filled with the metal powder and this metal powder is pressed by means of the cylindrical parts 34 and 38 of a first pressing member 14 and a second pressing member 20 to prepare a compact (compacting step S1), respectively. This compact is sintered without delay to manufacture the sintered compact (sintering step S2).
