PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a binder resin for a toner so as to obtain a toner with low odor. SOLUTION: A resin obtained by a suspension polymerization method is heat treated or distilled in the presence of persulfates, or a resin obtained by the suspension polymerization method using both of a low temperature decomposing type oil-soluble polymerization initiator and a high temperature decomposing type oil-soluble polymerization initiator having 10 to 50 deg.C difference in the 10-hour half decay temperature is heat treated at a temperature higher by 20 to 40 deg.C than the 10-hour half decay temperature of the high temperature decomposition type oil-soluble initiator and then heat treated or distilled in the presence of persulfates.
