PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized optical wavelength multiplexing and demultiplexing device which can demultiplex a light with a plurality of wavelengths with low cross talk and has satisfactory mass-productivity, and to provide a method for using the same. SOLUTION: A Mach-Zehnder light interferometer type multiplexing and demultiplexing circuit 8(8A, 8B, 8C) has a 1st optical waveguide 3, and a 2nd optical waveguide 4 juxtaposed with the 1st optical waveguide 3. In the circuit, a plurality of directional connection parts 1 and 2 formed by making proximate the 1st optical waveguide 3 and the 2nd optical waveguide 4 are arranged in a longitudinal direction of the optical waveguide through a space, and the 1st optical waveguide 3 and the 2nd optical waveguide 5 held between the adjacent directional connection parts 1 and 2 have different lengths each other. At least one or more stages of the optical Mach-Zehnder light interferometer type multiplexing and demultiplexing circuits 8(8A, 8B, 8C) are connected and formed, and at least two or more optical output waveguides 6 are provided at the last stage. Light transmission filter 7(7a-7d) for transmitting the set wavelength lights which are made corresponded to the respective optical waveguides 6(6a-6d) and determined are provided in the respective optical output waveguides 6(6a-6d) of the final stages. |
