PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely determine an adjusted spectral image, when adjusting the brightness, hue and chroma of a colorimetric image, based on the adjustment. SOLUTION: When the spectral image is adjusted to reproduce the colorimetric image according to the color adjustment of the colorimetric image, according to the adjusting region of the color-adjusted colorimetric image a set of characteristic vectors of spectral reflectance distribution of this adjusting region is acquired (step 106). A weight coefficient related to each of the characteristic vectors is determined so that the colorimetric value obtained from the linear sum of the characteristic vectors of the acquired set is substantially matched to the colorimetric value after color adjustment in the adjusting region (step 108), and the spectral reflectance distribution is formed by use of the determined weight coefficient and the characteristic vectors (step 110), whereby the adjustment of the spectral image is performed. When the color reproducing region exceeds the output color reproducing region of an output device or the like in color adjustment, the information of the effect is reported and alarmed.
