PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface soil block relocating method which solves not only a problem of change in physical properties of soil, caused by agitation of soil structure when surface soil is sampled in a manner ripping the same from the soil by applying pressure of a machine to the soil, but also a problem of adverse effect on growth and dwelling of animals and plants in the soil due to compaction of the soil by the heavy machine. SOLUTION: According to the surface soil block relocating method, a container (3) is mounted on a bucket (2) of the heavy machine (1), and the heavy machine (1) is operated to sample a surface soil block (4) which has been excavated, into the container (3) at a sampling site (P1 ). Then the container (3) is detached from the bucket (2) at a relocated site (P2 ), and the container (3) is inclined to slide the surface soil block (4) out of the container (3). If the relocated site (P2 ) is separate from the sampling site (P1 ), the container (3) together with the surface soil block (4) is mounted on a conveying vehicle (9) by a crane (5), and then transported to the relocated site. The container is for use in the relocating method, and at least one of fall preventive covers (23a, 23b) is detachable from edges of a pair of side plates (22a, 22b).
