PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core with a cross sectional shape which can be changed for winding and extraction but does not change in the width direction of a band like body. SOLUTION: The core 10 for forming a wound object having a substantially elliptical cross sectional shape by winding a long band like body around it and removing it from the wound object after winding is provided with a first member 16, a second member 18 and a pin 24 rotatably connecting the first member 16 and the second member 18. A cross sectional shape including the first and second members 16 and 18 when the first and second members 16 and 18 are rotated to a rotational movement limit in a one side around the pin 24 is a substantially elliptical shape, and a cross sectional shape of the first and second members 16 and 18 when the first and second members 16 and 18 are rotated to a rotation limit in another side around the pin 24 is reduced within the substantially elliptical shape. The core 10 composed in such manner changes the cross sectional shape by rotating in a state with the first and second members 16 and 18 connected to the pin 24. By this, a core with a cross section not changing in the width direction of the band like body can be provided.
