PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a high-molecular-weight polyarylene polymer compound by polymerizing an arylene monomer having two leaving groups in the presence of a nickel (0) complex, a polymer compound produced by the process, and a polymeric LED which is made by using the polymer compound and can be driven at a low voltage and at a high efficiency. SOLUTION: One or more monomers represented by formula (1): X1 -Ar1 -X2 (Ar1 is arylene or the like; and X1 and X2 are each a leaving group) are polymerized in a solvent containing an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and/or an etheric solvent in the presence of a nickel (0) complex in an amount of at least 1.8 mol for 1 mol of the monomers to produce a polymer compound having repeating units represented by formula (2): -Ar1 - (Ar1 is as defined above).
