PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective diffusion film preventing burrs from being generated in single substance processing of the protective diffusion film and being excellent in punching compatibility and further in easiness for handling in single substance manipulation and to provide a method for manufacturing the same, surface light source device and a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: In the protective diffusion film which is used for the surface light source device equipped with a lens film and is provided with a transparent substrate layer and a resin layer, disposed on at least one surface of the transparent substrate layer and having a minute projecting and recessing shape on a surface, the protective diffusion film is characterized by having >=20% and <=200% tensile breaking point percent elongation of the resin having the minute projecting and recessing shape on the surface.
