摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type liquid crystal display device which is excellently thin and lightweight and has superior display quality. SOLUTION: A transmission type display panel (100) is equipped with at least a liquid crystal cell (90) constituted by sandwiching liquid crystal (30) between view-side and rear-side cell substrates (10, 20) which are constituted by providing at least transparent electrodes (12, 22) on transparent substrates (11, 21) and arranged having their electrode sides opposite each other, and the transmission type liquid crystal display device has a lighting device (50) on one or more flanks of the transmission type liquid crystal display panel (100) and an optical path control layer (40) of 10 to 300 μm in thickness having a light emitting means (A) on the external surface side of the rear-side cell substrate. The light emitting means is equipped with an optical path conversion oblique surface (A1) which reflects light which is made incident from the flank through the lighting device to the side of the view-side cell substrate and the optical path conversion oblique surface has a tilt angle of 35 to 48 deg. to the reference plane of the liquid crystal display panel.
