<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device for protecting a knee capable of adequately protecting a knee of a driver and contracting a time from a start to a completion of development and expansion of an air bag. SOLUTION: The air bag device M1 for protecting the knee protects the knee of the driver by projecting the folded and housed air bag from an opening 17 for projection to a vehicle back side when gas for inflation flows in. The air bag 26 has an approximately plate shape at a time of the completion of development and expansion, and includes a lower expansion part 30 and an upper expansion part 31. The lower expansion part 30 is arranged on the front side of the seated driver D, and has a width dimension in left and right directions for covering both of knees KL and KR of the driver D. The upper expansion part 31 can cover from an upper edge side peripheral edge 18 of the opening 17 for projection on a side of a lower surface 8a of a column cover 8 to the vicinity of an upper end 8b on the side of the column cover lower surface 8a, and approaches both left and right edges 31a, 31b to a center side in left and right directions from both left and right edges 30a, 30b of the lower expansion part 30.</p> |
