PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator capable of cooling foods such as vegetables and the like in a vacuum atmosphere. SOLUTION: The refrigerator is provided with a vacuum fresh food storage compartment 2 the interior of which can be kept sealed by a door locking means 9 for locking a door 5 in a closed state and can be kept in the vacuum state by means of a suction device 7 operated in interlock with opening and closing of the door. The door locking means 9 is provided with a valve means 15 for permitting cold air to flow into the vacuum fresh food storage compartment when the locked state of the door is released, and for interrupting introduction of the cold air into the compartment when the door is locked.
