PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-chamber air conditioner which can be operated smoothly for cooling even when the outside air temperature is low in the winter season, etc. SOLUTION: In this air conditioner, a first by-pass passage 18 equipped with an electromagnetic stop valve 20 is provided between second piping 14 which connects an outdoor heat exchanger 3 and indoor units 4, 5, and 6 to each other and third piping 15 which connects the indoor units 4, 5, and 6 and a compressor 1 to each other. In addition, a second by-pass passage 19 equipped with another electromagnetic stop value 21 is provided between fourth piping 16 which connects the discharge side of the compressor 1 and the indoor units 4, 5, and 6 to each other and the third piping 15. When the temperature of a refrigerant rises on the discharge side of the compressor 1, the stop valves 20 and 21 are opened.
