PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bis-o-nitrophenols useful as an intermediate of a polymer excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strengths and electric properties. SOLUTION: This method for producing the bis-o-nitrophenol comprises nitrating by nitric acid a bisphenol represented by structural formula (1) (wherein, A denotes phenyl of naphthyl which may be substituted; B denotes methyl or trifluoromethyl; X denotes H, a lower alkyl which may be substituted with a halogen, a lower alkoxy which may be substituted with a halogen, a lower thioalkyl, an acyloxy or a halogen) in an inactive solvent in the absence of other acids.
