PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment method and a heat treatment furnace with which the heat treatment can be performed with little consumption of hydrocarbon and can reduce an exhausted amount of CO2 from the heat treatment furnace. SOLUTION: In the heat treatment furnace 1 for performing the heat treatment in the atmosphere in the furnace containing carbon monoxide after purging the furnace gas and controlling the atmosphere in the furnace, the furnace gas is continuously recovered, and carbon dioxide in the furnace gas is reduced by mixing the recovered furnace gas and hydrocarbon while circulating into the heat treatment furnace 1 as the atmospheric gas containing carbon monoxide.
