PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a sulfone derivative. SOLUTION: This method for producing the sulfone derivative represented by the general formula: R-W-S(O)2 -X-Y-L<2> (IIIa) (wherein, R is a cyclic hydrocarbon which may be substituted or the like; W is a bond or a divalent chain hydrocarbon group which may be substituted; X is a divalent chain hydrocarbon group which may be substituted; Y is -N(R<5> )-,-CO-, -S(O)-, -S(O)2 -, -CH2 - or a bond; L<2> is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group or an alkoxy group which may be substituted; and R<5> is a hydrogen atom or the like) or a salt thereof is characterized in that a sulfinic acid derivative represented by the general formula: R-W-S(O)2 -M (I) (wherein, M is a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal; R and W have the same meanings as the above- mentioned) with a compound represented by the formula; L<1> -X-Y-L<2> (IIa) (wherein, L<1> is a leaving group; and X, Y and L<2> have the same meanings as the above-mentioned).
