PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple moisture meter capable of easily performing quantity determination measurement of moisture in soil at a low cost in plant cultivation using the soil. SOLUTION: In this simple soil water meter, a long thin rectangular thin plate type water absorbing material piece prepared by impregnating it with a reagent changing in color by contact with water such as bromthymol blue and cobalt chloride is sealed and wrapped by means of a water impermeable transparent thin plate surrounding it while only a shorter side lower end part of the water absorbing material piece is exposed. In the long thin rectangular thin plate type water absorbing material piece, the water impermeable transparent thin plate in the vicinity of rectangular filter paper, or the water impermeable transparent thin plate, a length gauge or a soil moisture degree marker is applied preferably.
