PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traction wheel to be used for traction of a strapping material. SOLUTION: The traction wheel (10) includes a first set of teeth (16) which are formed upon an outer peripheral surface (14) and a plurality of cuts (30). The cuts intersect with the first set of teeth so as to discretely separate the first set into tooth segments and define a second set of teeth. This tooth structure serves to prevent generation of silvers from the strapping material during a strap tensioning operation so as to render strapped articles safe to end users, and to preserve tensile strength properties and structural integrity of the strapping material.
