PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-priced image reader capable of accurately and easily regulating a shaft-to-shaft distance between the motor shaft of a scanner motor and a driving shaft for driving a scanner in a subscanning direction. SOLUTION: This image reader is equipped with the driving shaft 17 whose both ends are rotatably supported by a scanner frame 23, and the scanner motor 8 attached to the frame 23 through a bracket 26 and normally and reversely rotating the driving shaft 17. In the reader, the driving shaft 17 is normally and reversely rotated by the scanner motor 8, whereby a reading mechanism is moved back and forth in the subscanning direction so as to read an original image. The reader is provided with a bearing attaching hole 55 for the driving shaft 17 regulating the shaft-to-shaft distance between the driving shaft 17 and the motor shaft 8a of the scanner motor 8 on the bracket 26.
