PURPOSE: A card reader is provided to miniaturize a card reader without deterioration of read/write performance. CONSTITUTION: The card reader is provided with a card carrying device for carrying a non-contact IC card(4), a card carriage path(2) on which the non-contact IC card(4) is carried, and an antenna for communication for transferring a signal with the non-contact IC card(4). The card reader is also provided with a resin-molded holder(16) arranged so as to be opposite to the antenna for communication with the card carriage path(2) interposed, a rib(22) formed at the holder(16) for pressing any part other than the emboss part of the non-contact IC card(4), and a pressurizing device(6) for pressing the non-contact IC card(4) through the rib(22). The antenna for communication is arranged so as to be opposite to the non-contact IC card(4) to be carried on the card carriage path(2), and members defining the card carriage part(2) in the neighborhood of the antenna for communication are resin molded, and a scanner(5) for reading the emboss of the non-contact IC card(4) which is being carried is mounted on the holder(16).
