MULTICOLOR IMAGE DISPLAY METHOD AND DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rewriting type multicolor image display method and device capable of faithfully displaying desired colors and giving high display quality. SOLUTION: In the multicolor image display method, an image display medium obtained by forming a photosensitive layer comprising two or more photochromic compounds including a thermally irreversible photochromic compound and a thermally reversible photochromic compound and also including a photochromic compound different from the others in maximum absorption wavelength in the coloring state on a supporting substrate is subjected to at least a step in which all the photochromic compounds contained in the photosensitive layer are made to color by irradiation with ultraviolet light, a step in which desired regions are irradiated with visible light in a wavelength range corresponding to the maximum absorption wavelength of the thermally irreversible photochromic compound in the coloring state to selectively decolor the thermally irreversible photochromic compound and a step in which desired regions are heated to selectively decolor the thermally reversible photochromic compound.
