FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has frame, two columns rigidly fixed on frame and two columns pivotally mounted through shaft on frame. Movable columns are connected with one another through tie-rod provided with adjustable spring. One working wall of first pair of walls of assembled vertical crystallizer is fixed on individual spring. Hydraulic cylinder in upper part of each immovable column has rod for movable column drive. Hydraulic cylinder with rod for wall drive is rigidly fixed above each working wall of second pair of walls positioned for reciprocating to first pair of walls in out-of-phase relation thereto. Springs are attached lower ends of second pair of walls. Apparatus is further equipped with automatic control system for regulating operation of hydraulic cylinders. Hydraulic cylinders for drives of movable columns with first pair of walls are initially actuated. Upon separation of movable columns from one another, hydraulic cylinders of drive for second pair of working walls are actuated. Two movable columns are made T-shaped. Two working walls of first pair of walls are arranged on each of T-shaped columns. EFFECT: enhanced reliability in operation and increased efficiency. 2 cl, 2 dwg
