PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized, high-performance optical isolator. SOLUTION: The optical isolator 10 is equipped with an element part 14 which has a Faraday rotator 12 and a magnet for applying a magnetic field to the Faraday rotator 12; and the magnet is arranged to be opposite to the element part 12 and has a couple of permanent magnet plates 16 and 17 having through holes 16a and 17a smaller than the element part 12 respectively.
