PURPOSE: Provided are an azacyclodextrin fullerene which is a condensed matter which is water-soluble and stable in water, prepared by conjugating cyclodextrin or derivatives thereof having water-solubility and biocompatibility with fullerene, and a method for preparing the same. CONSTITUTION: The azacyclodextrin fullerene is obtained by conjugating a cyclodextrin or derivatives thereof with fullerene. The cyclodextrin or mixture thereof is selected from alpha, beta or gamma type. The method for preparing the azacyclodextrin fullerene comprises the steps of (i) tosylating a cyclodextrin or derivatives thereof; (ii) reacting the cyclodextrin tosylate formed in the step(i) with NaN3; and (iii) reacting an azidocyclodextrin formed in the step(ii) with fullerene. The azacyclodextrin is useful for medical and pharmaceutical fields such as contrast medium, anticancer preparations, and antiviral drugs.
